Top Gun 2 Release Date: When is Top Gun Maverick published?

The sequel was originally set for release on July 12, 2019, before hitting a full 12-year delay.  The dates were looking for issues after moving slightly ahead of June 24, 2020 in the US and July 17, 2020 in the UK.

However, the sequel was later delayed by another 20 delays in December 2020, and this was not the end of it because Paramount has now pushed the sequel back to July 2, 2021.

Tom Cruise sent a message to fans in response to the initial delay: "I know many of you have waited 34 years. Unfortunately, it will be longer."

But why did the sequel take so long to make in the first place?  Cruz explained that it’s all because he “doesn’t just make movies to make movies”.

“I never really thought I’d make it,” he revealed.  "We just started talking. And I realized there were some things we could do cinematically. And I started to get excited about this big challenge, 'How do we do it?'

The sequel was filmed from May 2018 to June 2019.

Top Gun 2 Actors: Who is the character in the top song Maverick?

It has been more than 30 years since they became the best in the fight to win the 'Top Song' title at the US Navy Fighter Whips School in Miramar.  Top 2, however, will see rivals Maverick (Cruz) and Iceman (Val Kilmer) reunite.

Director Joseph Kosinski has been quiet about how their relationship has changed in the intervening years.

“The animosity and relationship between Iceman and Maverick is one of the things that made the first film iconic,” he said.  "This is a relationship that is important to top gun suffrage and as a fan I want to see how it has evolved."

But how has Maverick changed over the decades when we last saw him?  Well, he's not right.

"In many ways he's still the man we remember from the first top gun, Kosinski told the Empire."  He puts that old ninja under a tarp in the hangar and still wears the Ray-Ban pilot.  He is the best of what he does and he has given his whole life.

"But it has come as a personal expense and Maverick has to deal with some of the issues from his past and reunite with them. It's a passing story like the first movie. But now a man is a different stage of life."

At one point, Kilmer was convinced that the sequel would have the role of otherwise retired Jean Hackman.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be a dream casting place and was quickly withdrawn.

Anthony Edwards is not denying any ghost goose plot, but at least if we don't get it, we'll see Miles Taylor in the role of Goose's son Bradley Bradshaw.

Thanks all.
